Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has since turned around his career at the club, and had a very formidable season for United.
Shaw took that same brilliance to the Euros and was in top form for the Three Lions all through the campaign.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has hailed Shaw for turning around his career, after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho.
Shaw scored a spectacular goal against Italy in the final of Euro 2020, and Ferdinand was all too pleased.
Speaking at half-time on the BBC, Red Devils legend Ferdinand said: “Phenomenal tournament. You’ve got to remember where he’s come from.
“We talked about resilience before with Raheem Sterling. This kid has shown immense resilience. He was put out of the [United] squad, hung out to dry.
“Jose Mourinho didn’t fancy him obviously and he’s just come back from that and that shows character.
“That shows somebody who works on himself not only physically but mentally as well and what a dream start to the game.
“Listen, if he finishes this game as the player who scores the winning goal. Imagine that, from where he’s come from in terms of being out of the team and cast away.”
