It doesn’t come better than this when you sign a player who grew up as a fan.
Manchester United have moved to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid and there is no better coup than this deal.
The 28-year-old comes to Old Trafford with a huge reputation having won just about everything in the game, from the World Cup to four Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles.
Interestingly, what’s even making the deal more spicy is that Manchester United isn’t just signing a player, but a fan of the club.
According to a report by Samuel Luckhurst, a top source for the club, the only club Varane was ready to leave Real Madrid for was Manchester United because he had been a childhood fan of the club.
Luckhurst’s report was also supported by The Telegraph as they report Varane could’ve earned more money by extending his stay with Real Madrid, but he chose to come to Old Trafford.
Luckhurst adds that Varane used to be a big fan of Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand whom he idolised while growing up. What makes it a dream come true is that the Manchester United legend even texted the Frenchman before his move was finalised.
Manchester United fans won’t forget the iconic partnership of Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, and fans will be hoping to see Varane form a similar partnership with Harry Maguire.
