Chelsea have been desperate to sign Erling Haaland this summer from Borussia Dortmund, but Manchester United are reportedly confident they will win the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker, despite Chelsea’s desperation.
Manchester United have tied Solskjaer to the club for the next three years, and The Sun claim Solskjaer will use his relationship with Haaland to lure him to Old Trafford next summer.
Former Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair has backed such claims and he believes Solskjaer was given his new contract as a bait to sign Haaland.
Speaking on talkSPORT radio, former Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair said: “When you about Erling Haaland’s relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is that why Solskjaer has been given this new contract at Manchester United?
“If he is going to stay at Borussia Dortmund this season and then allowed to leave for his buyout clause [£68 million] next season, would Ole, who has got a good relationship with Haaland, be in the main seat?
“He could be the missing piece, though. If you go there and win their first Premier League title, for now in eight years, this season if they don’t win it will be nine years. There’s a lot of glory going to Man United and being their no.9.”
If United sign Haaland next summer, he’d be £almost £90m cheaper than the current value placed on his transfer.
