Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t too keen on Romelu Lukaku when he took over the club and the Belgian was sold to Inter Milan where he has become one of the best strikers in the world.
Anthony Martial was given the striking mantle at the club, and he responded by scoring 23 goals in 48 appearances as United finished third in the Premier League.
However, Martial’s form has dropped since then and he managed just seven goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last season.
According to a report by the Athletic, Solskjaer and his backroom staff want Anthony Martial to ‘fight’ for a starting position this season, after growing ‘frustrated’ by his lack of progress last season.
Solskjaer’s assistants are believed to want more from Martial who failed to show up after Lukaku’s departure and also couldn’t nail down a starting spot last season when Edinson Cavani got injured.
However, the report claims Manchester United haven’t given up on Martial and will hope he comes out firing for the 2021-22 season.
