Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has urged his former side to go for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Manchester United seem to be missing a steel in the middle of the park, and many believe signing a top midfielder will solve United’s problems.
Kalvin has been dubbed as ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ by Leeds fans, and Sharpe believes that the 25-year-old is among the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old was a force in the middle of the park for the Three Lions as England reached the final of Euro 2020, and Sharpe believes Phillips will be a good signing for United.
“I don’t think there’s any rush for him to leave Leeds. I think Leeds could be one of the surprise teams this season that are up there with West Ham, Leicester and Everton pushing for a top 6 place,” he said.
“He played nearly every minute of every game in the Euros so it just goes to show you don’t have to play in the top six to get in the team. His ability and performance have been noted by everyone in football.
“There’s very few players that can play that position very well and he seems to be one of them. And if he was to go I’m sure United would be a good spot for him as a holding midfielder but a move from Leeds to United is a really tough move and tough ask.
“He’d fit in anywhere the way he plays but would be a tough decision for him to leave Leeds, it’s his boyhood team.”
