Manchester United have since agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the signing of Raphael Varane.
The deal is worth an initial £34m but could rise up to £44m, as United have signed up one of the best defenders in the world.
The 28-year-old completed a medical this week but a period of quarantine upon arriving in the UK has meant he has still not joined his new teammates in training.
There were hopes that he could make his debut against Leeds on Saturday, but United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now ruled that out as we still await the official announcement of Varane deal.
“He has not trained with us,” Solskjaer said.
“We haven’t dotted the Is and crossed the Ts yet. Things happen and things take time and with the isolation that has delayed things. It is not 100 per cent done yet so he won’t be involved because he hasn’t trained with us yet.
“The big thing was isolation n and quarantine, he’s been in Manchester but hopefully it will be done soon.”
