Manchester United announced on Friday that the club has sealed a move for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese star has made a sensational return to Old Trafford after being away for the past 12 years, with spells at Real Madrid and Juventus.
With Ronaldo now back, many are wondering if he’d be given the No. 7 jersey which is currently worn by Edinson Cavani.
Ronaldo wore the famous no.7 shirt, the same number worn by club legends such as George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham, during his first spell at the club.
CR7 has since become a brand, and Ronaldo would want to continue that in his second spell at Old Trafford.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has hailed Edinson Cavani for deciding to hand Ronaldo his favourite No. 7 jersey.
“Just to think Cavani could be the back-up for Ronaldo, it’s unbelievable,” said Ferdinand on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show as he reacted to United’s announcement.
“Cavani, I have to say, what a man! He saw who was coming to town and gave up the No.7 shirt.”
Rio Ferdinand then said that the registration of the shirt could however be an Issue. He added: “At the end of the day you know what the problem might be is that the shirts have been registered, maybe. And that might be an issue. So he might not be able to be No.7 so we’ll see.”
