Solskjaer reveals what De Gea told him in phonecall during summer break

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the phone conversation he had with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea during the summer break.

Solskjaer said: “You need cover in every position. It’s a long, long season. We’ve been fortunate David has been fit and never really had injuries, touch wood.

“He called me over the summer, and asked about coming in earlier and having less holiday because he wanted to be ready. For me that was a great message that ‘I am here to fight, I’m energised, I have looked at my situation and will give everything I can to be the best David de Gea’.

“And we know the best possible David de Gea is probably the best goalkeeper in the world. He’s in his 11th season here, what a servant we’ve had, and with his energy, pride and desire we’re very pleased with him – long may it continue.”
