Former England star claims Lukaku will score more goals than Ronaldo

The race for the Premier League’s Golden boot is on, and the likes of Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo are the suspects to who will score the most goals in the league this season.

Manchester United signed back club legend Cristiano Ronaldo to bring back his scoring boots to Old Trafford, while Chelsea went on to sign Romelu Lukaku.

It’s going to be an interesting race for the Golden Boot, and former England international Darren Bent believes Lukaku will score more goals than Ronaldo.

From Bent’s perspective, Lukaku will be the main scorer for Chelsea, while Manchester United’s goals will be spread around Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

“I think when you look at Chelsea and you look at the goals they get, I think a lot of them will go through Lukaku,” he told talkSPORT.

“Where as yes, we know how good Ronaldo is, but Mason Greenwood is going to chip in with some, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford when he comes back, Cavani. See he [Ronaldo] might not even play [all the games], but if Lukaku is fit he’s playing.

“You look at Lukaku, Chelsea brought him for a purpose in terms of he has to play. That was the missing piece of the jigsaw for me and he’s already 1-0 up [in goals vs Ronaldo], he’s already got a head start.”

Bent has actually forgotten Ronaldo scored more goals than Lukaku in the Serie A last season. He’s always been in a team of goalscorers right from his first spell at Manchester United down to Real Madrid, but he always found the net on a consistent basis.

Lukaku himself has said he doesn’t want to be compared with Ronaldo, and admitted that the Manchester United legend is among the top three players of all time.
