Solskjaer will be delighted if Antonio Conte becomes Tottenham Hotspur boss
According to Jamie Redknapp, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted if Antonio Conte is appointed as Tottenham Hotspur boss.
Spurs confirmed on Monday morning that they had parted company with Nuno Espirito Santo after just four months in charge.
The Portuguese was sacked after Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on Saturday.
Conte was reportedly one of the candidates to replace Solskjaer if he got sacked as Manchester United boss and Redknapp believes Conte heading to Tottenham Hotspur is good news for Solskjaer.
“Antonio Conte going to Tottenham – I’m sure a lot of Tottenham fans would be delighted with that,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“He’s a first-class, serial winner. He obviously did an incredible job at Chelsea, an incredible job at Inter Milan, so he knows the game inside out. He would be a brilliant signing for them.
“I’m sure if this is the case, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted because that’s a manager that Man United, if he were to leave, that would be a manager they’d be looking at.
“What you have to be careful of is that he doesn’t maybe play the two off them, maybe forces Man United’s hand. So it’s going to be an interesting few days.
“I don’t understand why after four months you can get him, but you couldn’t have got him four months ago. I think there must’ve been a problem with the transfer budget, he didn’t maybe agree with what Daniel Levy wanted to do with the club.
“When you have a manager like Antonio Conte, you have to give him the license to get the players in that he wants, play the system he wants, you can’t interfere, he does things his way.”
