‘His performance was shocking’ — Ex-Man United defender disappointed in player’s performance against Atalanta
Former Manchester United defender, Paul Parker, has revealed he was shocked by the type of performance delivered by Harry Maguire against Atalanta.
Maguire again, raised doubts about his ability to lead in defence of late, after being at fault for the hosts’ second goal.
The Englishman was also at the heart of the United defence that shipped in four against Leicester and five against Liverpool just weeks before.
And according to Parker, United were lucky to have had Ronaldo on the pitch, because it could have been worse for us.
He told Eurosport, “Manchester United can’t carry on like this. Defensively they are very, very poor.
“Harry Maguire was shocking against Atalanta and was at fault for their second goal.
“It’s clear to anyone out there, whether you’re a United fan or a football fan, if you watch United you would turn around and say they’ve been saved by Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He was lucky to hit double figure touches on the ball, but when he scores two goals you can’t really complain.
“Defensively United were awful and they are weak in midfield with and without the ball. The only guarantee is that Ronaldo will get you a late goal and Bruno Fernandes will create.
“But even the frontline needs organising, it always looks like a shot in the dark.”
