Paul Merson sends warning to Solskjaer after Atalanta draw
Arsenal hero, Paul Merson, has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his Manchester United side are struggling, and were only lucky to escape without a loss against Atalanta on Tuesday.
The hosts took the lead twice, and looked like they would hand Solskjaer a second loss in three games, before Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to save his blushes.
The Portuguese scored a late goal, to make it 2-2 against the Italian side, after previously scoring one to bring United level in the first half. But while Merson is impressed with Ronaldo’s performance, he had very little to say about the team’s overall input.
He told sky Sports, “It’s another Polyfilla one, it’s just covering over the cracks, but it’s a result.
“They’ve got a draw and they’re going to qualify.
“If they had lost, and they had gone and got beat by Villarreal, they were virtually out of the competition. Now you would expect them to qualify.
“As long as you’ve got Ronaldo on the pitch, you’ve got a chance. They hadn’t looked like scoring in a month of Sundays and then he goes and does what he’s done.”
