Report claims Edinson Cavani was left unhappy with how Manchester United tried to take away his number 7 jersey
Edinson Cavani was not happy, after Manchester United tried to take his number 7 jersey, and give to Jadon Sancho.
United chased Sancho for nearly two years, before finally signing him during the summer, and it is reported that throughout that period, a promise to give him the number 7 jersey was part of the negotiations.
After Sancho’s arrival, United initially wanted to give him the jersey, and The Athletic reports that the move didn’t go down well with Cavani. The Uruguayan had used the jersey since his arrival in 2020, so it was understandable if he felt that way.
Cavani, however, did willingly hand over the No. 7 jersey eventually, after Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Juventus this summer.
The Portuguese has used the iconic number 7 since his first stint at Man United, so it was expected he’d get it once he signed with United again, although he claims he didn’t see it happening.
Speaking after his return, Ronaldo told the media, “I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture.”
