Manchester United midfielder, Nemanja Matic, has hailed Yaya Toure as the toughest opponent he has ever faced.

Toure spent eight years at Manchester City, making 230 appearances in the process. The Ivorian also scored a number of key goals for the Citizens during that time, including an FA Cup semi-final against Man United.

When asked recently to name the most difficult player he had to face, Matic put rivalry aside, and revealed Toure was phenomenal.

He said, “The toughest player I played against was probably Yaya Toure, when he played at Manchester City.

“In his prime, he was a very good player – probably one of the best players in the Premier League and one of the best midfielders in the world at that time.

“So I really enjoyed playing against him. He always gave me a hard time and you always had to be at your best against him so probably him.”

Toure left City in 2018, and before he left he scored 59 goals for them.
