“It was a mistake” – Lothar Matthaus claims player shouldn’t have joined Man Utd. It’s not Van de Beek

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has told Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho that he made a mistake moving to Old Trafford.
The England international completed a £73m move to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but has struggled to live up to expectations.
The player has found playing time had to come by as he failed to score or assist in 13 appearances so far for the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Bayern Munich and Germany icon Lothar Matthaus said: “You see the players who are playing at Manchester United. You have Marcus Rashford, you have Cristiano Ronaldo.
“This means you have two from three and then you have another four players who can play in the third position and one of these three or four players is Jadon Sancho.
“I don’t know how he is training at Man United. He has to work very hard to make this step in the first eleven. Now he’s far away from the first XI.
“When I see how many minutes he was playing this season or which games he was playing. Then I think it was a mistake. Maybe he has more money but he has less games.”
Meanwhile, it is believed Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching staff are reportedly looking to try the 21-year-old in a new position as a wing-back in a bid to fit him into the United starting XI.
