Why Manchester United have struggled in recent seasons – Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has claimed the reason for Manchester United’s current struggles is partly down to the club being obsessed with its past.

Since the exit of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils are yet to find a suitable longterm successor to fill the void left by the highly-influential Scotsman.

The likes of David Moyes, Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer have so far failed to bring and guarantee the kind of success Fergie achieved at Old Trafford.

The Swedish striker who played at Old Trafford during Jose Mourinho’s reign has urged the club to focus on the present and forget about past glories.

Asked about United’s current problems, Zlatan told The Guardian: “They talk too much about the past.

“When I went there I said: ‘I’m here to focus on the present and to make my own story.’ But when you have too much it becomes like a loop.

“You have to think about the present or you should go to a hospital and clean your head.”
