Messi opens up on Ronaldo rivalry, and gives verdict on Ronaldo’s move to Manchester United
Lionel Messi has opened up on his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo in a recent interview.
For many, Messi and Ronaldo remain the best pair the game has seen in many years, especially given the enormous amount of goals they score for their respective sides.
Messi and Ronaldo competed for supremacy in the La Liga for many years before eventually separating, following Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus in 2018.
The Portuguese then made a sensational return to Manchester United this summer, as his old rival, Messi made a surprise switch from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain.
But despite the competition between them, Messi still has respect for Ronaldo, as he had some great things to say about him during a recent chat with Marca.
The Argentine said of Ronaldo’s quick start to life in the EPL, after his return, “Cristiano already knew the club but that was at a different stage and now he has adapted in an impressive manner,”
“From the start he has scored goals as he always does and had no problems adapting.
“Time has passed since we competed in the same league.
“We not only competed on an individual level but also on a team level for the same aims.
“It was a very beautiful stage for us and for people because they enjoyed it very much. It’s a beautiful memory that will remain in football history.”
Ronaldo has scored ten goals for United since his return, and even though United have struggled regardless, Messi believes the club can turn it all around.
He added: “United is a very strong team with great players.
“The Premier League is a very difficult competition and a levelled one and things can turn around many times. After December, a lot changes and anything can happen.”
