Carrick reveals why he is ‘disappointed’ after draw against Chelsea
Michael Carrick has expressed his disappointment at the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Red Devils took the lead five minutes after the break, after a Jorginho mistake gifted Jadon Sancho his first Premier League goal since his £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. But it wasn’t long before Jorginho made up for it with a fine penalty at the other end.
Chelsea pressed, and may have well won it had Antonio Rudiger not blasted his effort over De Gea’s post in what was the last kick of the game.
But when asked to give his reaction after the game, Carrick revealed he was disappointed because the game was there for United to win.
“Disappointed actually,” said the former Man United midfielder.
“When you are in front in a game like this to have it taken away from you. Immensely proud of the players and staff in a difficult situation.
“That was a fantastic all-round performance, we defended well and I cannot fault them one bit.
“I feel for the players… They gave absolutely everything. A lot has been made of this pressing thing, we press high up the pitch in pretty much every game.”
Chelsea maintain a 12 point lead over Man United, although their lead over rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool, has been cut to just 1 and 2 points in that order.
