“Chelsea player deceived referee” – Man Utd legend Andy Cole claims
Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has claimed Chelsea defender Thiago Silva deceived the referee into awarding the Blues a penalty in Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Chelsea.
With Manchester United leading 1-0, the Blues were awarded a penalty after the referee adjudged Aaron Wan-Bissaka to have fouled Thiago Silva.
“For me Thiago Silva doesn’t have control of the ball anyway,” Cole told Premier League Productions.
“Now if this happens further up the pitch nine times out of ten you’re not getting a free-kick. The referee is waving play on. I’m not quite sure why he’s given a penalty there. It’s not a penalty for me.
“In open play we’d just play on, otherwise you’d be stopping it every time the ball gets rolled forward and somebody makes a challenge. I’m not having it as a penalty. He’s a big tough centre half as well! I’m not having it!”
