Former Man United assistant coach backs new boss to bring this superstar to Old Trafford
Former Manchester United assistant coach, Rene Meulensteen, has backed new interim manager, Ralf Rangnick to help bring Erling Haaland to Old Trafford.
Rangnick will be in charge of affairs at Old Trafford until the end of season, when he’ll then take up a consultancy role with the club.
The German is hailed as one of the most respected names in global football, and Meulensteen believes his strong ties in Germany could help United get Haaland.
He told Stadium Atsro, “Football is about relationships.
“We all know that Haaland is a tremendous talent with an unbelievable goalscoring record. He’s young, he’s direct, he’s quick, he’s strong.
“I think like a lot of fans I expected him to be at Man United already because of that relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They know each other but for whatever reason it hasn’t materialised.
“It is important that you have got good relationships. Maybe Rangnick can bring something to the table and bring someone like Haaland to Manchester United. I think that would be a big scoop.”
Haaland is one of the most wanted strikers in football, with 71 goals in 70 games for Borussia Dortmund. He’s expected to be available for sale next year when his £68 million release clause comes into effect.
