Manchester United legend rates three United players as Championship material
Manchester United legend, Paul Parker has slammed the midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Fred for their poor showing in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea.
The Red Devils earned a valuable point away from home, as they faced the Premier League leaders on Sunday, but it wasn’t in any way an easy game for Michael Carrick’s men.
A somewhat lucky goal from Jadon Sancho gave United the lead in the half, but it wasn’t for long before Jorginho equalised from the penalty spot to ensure the hosts took something from the encounter.
However, speaking about our performance in the game, Parker said he wasn’t pleased with what he saw, especially with our midfielders, who he said played like a ‘Championship’ side.
He told Talk Of The Devils, “Fred is the best one [midfielder] they’ve got at that club. The others, McTominay and Matic, they are too laboured.
“Fred can thrust forward with the ball, we know there are limitations in what he does but we know he can run with the ball and affect people’s thinking.
“The moment the game slows down and he gets time to think it becomes an issue.
“But when I looked at that midfield, it was like a Championship midfield. United’s bets midfield doesn’t touch any of the top six.
“It is quite poor creativity wise and obviously on the defensive side too. The goals conceded tell you that. When you look at that three in midfield, it is as negative as any team has been in Premier League history.
“Even the sides that have been relegated. The Derbys, the Norwichs, Wigan when they went down, they weren’t as negative in midfield as United were yesterday.
“That’s the reason why they’ve come away with a draw, they were never in a position to win, they were relying on Chelsea making a mistake.
“Bruno was asked to close them down quick as possible, he kept having to ask people to join him.
“You saw that. In that context, United got a bonus. Given Chelsea’s form, they’ve come away with a seriously good point.”
