Michael Carrick slammed for making controversial decision. Would he do it again against Arsenal?
Michael Carrick was called ‘a temporary managerial halfwit’ by controversial Pundit and TV presenter, Piers Morgan, following his decision to bench Cristiano Ronaldo during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw away to Chelsea last weekend.
Carrick opted to play Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay in midfield, with a front three of Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the stalemate.
This means Ronaldo, who has been our top scorer this season, was dropped to the bench, much to the anger of some supporters and pundits, including known Arsenal fan, Morgan, who couldn’t hold back from lashing out at Carrick.
He said on Twitter, “Cristiano Ronaldo has scored ten goals this season.
“But gets benched by a temporary managerial halfwit who helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drive Manchester United into mid-table mediocrity.
“Outrageous way to treat the world’s best footballer.”
Carrick has since explained why he made the decision, adding that he needed fresh legs, and he had a chat with Ronaldo before the game.
