Confirmed: Two Manchester United players suspended for Premier League game against Aston Villa
Manchester United players Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw are sustained for our next Premier League game against Aston Villa on January 15.
McTominay and Shaw picked up their fifth bookings of the Premier League season during the 1-0 defeat to Wolves.
McTominay was cautioned by referee Mike Dean for a foul on Daniel Podence in the first half before Shaw followed suit when also bringing the Wolves forward down as he made his way down the right flank.
However, while McTominay and Shaw are suspended for our next Premier League game against Aston Villa, they will still be available for the Emirates FA Cup third-round tie against Steven Gerrard’s Villans, at Old Trafford on Monday 10 January.
Wolves at home was United’s 19th league game, and the next disciplinary threshold is 10 yellow cards up to and including a team’s 32nd fixture. If a player reaches that tally of cautions, it will result in a two-match ban.
Therefore, Cristiano Ronaldo no longer has the threat of immediate suspension hanging over him as he is on four bookings.
Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Teden Mengi has joined Birmingham City on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
The centre-back, who recently made his Champions League debut against Young Boys in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, embarks on his second temporary move away from the club.
