“Underwhelming, not great” – Former Manchester City star unimpressed with Manchester United’s performance against Aston Villa

Manchester City legend Micah Richards was unimpressed with Manchester United’s performance in the 1-0 FA Cup victory over Aston Villa on Monday night.
The Red Devils secured progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup after Scott McTominay headed home the winner after just 8 minutes.
Speaking on BBC One, Richards said about Manchester United’s performance: “Typical Manchester United again. Underwhelming, not great but at least Scott McTominay popped up with a goal.
“It took Anthony Elanga coming on to get the crowd going.
“They won today, so you have to take the positives but nowhere near good enough.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick was impressed with the performance against Aston Villa.
Rangnick told BBC Sport: “I think we showed a reaction after the Wolves game, that is what everyone expected from us. We knew it would be very difficult against Villa. In the first half I thought we did well. It could have been 3-2 or 4-3 to us at half time.
“In the second half we were on the counter attack and we could have made more of those situations. We took the wrong decisions at times but when we changed to a diamond in midfield we had more control.
“In the last 20 minutes we had more control. We fought well as a team together when it was important. In the end it was a good win. That was our goal, to proceed to the next round.”
