Philippe Coutinho is a very pleased man, after his impressive performance against Manchester United on Saturday night.

The Villans put on a great show in the second period, as they came back from two goals down, to earn a point against Man United. And Coutinho was at the thick of it all, despite not playing from the start.

With Villa struggling to score, Gerrard subbed on the Brazilian, with just 22 minutes to go, and he repaid the confidence with a goal, after playing a key part in setting up their first.

After the game, Coutinho said he missed playing in the Premier League, as he called on his teammates to build on the result.

He told Sky Sports: “I miss these games, I miss the Premier League and I’m very happy to be here and to know my new team-mates.

“It was a good start, I think we had a good game.

“We kept believing until the end that we could win the game, but we didn’t lose and we move on.”

Asked if he was nervous, after coming on to replace Morgan Sanson, Coutinho replied: “Yes, a little bit. Like always, I don’t speak English very well and I prefer to play and to be on the pitch than to keep talking.

“So I’m happy, it was the first game and we move on. I want to work hard to improve and get in better shape.

“All the guys here are really good so I’m happy. I’m very happy to be here again.”
