Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has revealed Anthony Martial did not want to play in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa as he seeks a January transfer.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford missed the game against Aston Villa due to injuries and Manchester United had just eight players on the bench for the game against Aston Villa.
Despite being fit for selection, Rangnick confirmed Martial refused to travel with the squad for the game against Aston Villa.
Asked about his lack of subs, and if Martial was the reason, Rangnick explained: “Yes, he didn’t want to be in the squad.
“He would have been in the squad normally but he didn’t want to, and that’s the reason why he was not travelling with us yesterday.”
Martial has not played since a two-minute cameo off the bench against Arsenal at the start of December, while he has only started two Premier League matches all season.
The French striker is unhappy with his lack of opportunities at Manchester United and is keen on leaving the club this January.
Manchester United are believed to want a big loan fee – and for Martial’s wages to be covered in full – which has put off some interested clubs, and now the 26-year-old appears to be trying to force United’s hand by refusing to be part of Saturday’s squad against Villa.
