“He plays brilliant football” – Paul Merson tells Manchester United to hire this outstanding Premier League manager. It’s not Brendan Rodgers
Paul Merson believes outstanding Brighton boss Graham Potter will be the ideal manager for Manchester United but claims the Red Devils won’t appoint Potter because he ‘is not a big name’.
The Red Devils appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a permanent manager is expected to be appointed at the end of the season.
“I am a big fan of his,” Merson told Sky Sports. “I think he plays brilliant football.
“If I was Manchester United, then I would be watching Potter. The way they play their football. They haven’t got the quality of Man United players. And they play great football.
“If I was Man United. I would be monitoring him. I would think ‘why not go for him?’.”
“[Manchester United] won’t because he’s not a name. It’s as simple as that,” Merson added.
“Then, the Man United fans will be like ‘why are we getting somebody from Brighton for?’. And that’s how it works. I think he’s outstanding.”
Brighton no doubt play brilliant football under Potter but is he really the right fit for Manchester United? David Moyes did an excellent job at Everton and is also doing an excellent job at West Ham but struggled at Manchester United.
