Ralf Rangnick needs to stamp his authority in the Manchester United dressing room
Modern football seems to favour the players. From the Bosman free transfer rule to dressing room power, the players always get their way around things. While many managers have fallen victim to play power, some others have been able to stamp their authority at the slightest hint of it.
The reality of this is that even the best managers experience it. Ask Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel about it and he would narrate the “unhelpful noise’ created by striker Romelu Lukaku and how he had to deal with it to prevent a collapse.
Even Pep Guardiola had to deal with disgruntled players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jose Mourinho had the worst with Mario Balotelli, Antono Conte would never want to share a dressing room with Diego Costa, and even legendry manager Sir Alex Ferguson also had to deal with David Beckham and his Spice Girl incident, Roy Keane and a lot of other player during his largely successful career at Old Trafford.
With news of Anthony Martial indirectly calling Ralf Rangnick a liar after the news of him refusing to play is a flash point of player power. The social media game and agent game used by players could be the last resort when things aren’t going the players’ way.
Rangnick needs to lay down the gauntlet to his players and make them know he is BOSS at The Theatre else his Dream of staying as Manchester United boss would be shortlived.
