Pay £40million or forget about signing him – Manchester United receive transfer message
According to reports, Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers have slapped a £40 million price tag on Manchester United transfer target Ruben Neves.
The Portugal international has been linked the a move to Old Trafford this winter with the club keen to strengthen our midfield options before the end of the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old who has over two years remaining on his current contract is also attracting interest from rivals Arsenal.
According to The Sun via Metro, Wolves are not willing to lower Neves’ valuation and will only sell if their £40m asking price is met.
However, Manchester United are reportedly only willing to pay £35m for the midfielder who has been a key player for Wolves since joining from Porto.
Speaking earlier this month, Wolves boss Bruno Lage highlighted the importance of keeping Neves at Molineaux.
“He’s very important, he’s a top player,” said Lage.
“We spoke about him six weeks ago, and I challenged him to be better every day and to grow up in the defensive way and understand he is a defensive midfielder.
“These are the goals. He knows when he is defending he cannot forget to work for the team, and when he has the ball he needs to understand the moment, because it’s the game with the ball that gives the dimension he deserves.
“He’s doing that and coming every day with the mentality to be better and have that dimension.
“I challenged him and some other players, ‘why are you not playing for your national team?’.
“We cannot forget that when we are defending we need to work for the team, but it’s the game with the ball that gives the other dimension.
“The challenge now is to continue in that way. He did very well against Chelsea and Man United. Different games with different spaces to play, and he did very well.”
It’s left to be seen if the United board can reach an agreement with Wolves for the transfer of Neves.
