Manchester United tried but failed to sign Premier League player on transfer deadline day
According to Manchester Evening News via Metro, Manchester United tried to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on transfer deadline day but a deal failed to materialise.
Newcastle United were eager to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan in January after the 24 year old goalkeeper made it known to the Red Devils that he was eager to leave.
Henderson is yet to start a Premier League game for Manchester United this season and was keen on leaving in January to play regularly and force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
Manchester United were prepared to accept Newcastle United’s offer for Henderson in exchange for Magpies shot stopper Dubravka.
However, the swap deal collapsed as Dubravka turned down the chance to move to Old Trafford, unwilling to serve up as a back-up option in Manchester.
Henderson has made just three appearances for the club this season. Two of those came in FA Cup and Carabao Cup games while the other came in the dead rubber Champions League clash against Young Boys.
