Jamie Carragher mocks Manchester United again and claims Arsenal have a better chance of winning the Champions League
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, has aimed a dig at Manchester United’s poor run of form, by claiming that Arsenal have a better chance of winning the UEFA Champions League than the Red Devils.
United have struggled for consistency this season, having won just one of their last four matches across all competitions – including an FA Cup fourth round defeat to Championship side, Middlesbrough.
The only hope of winning silverware this season lies in the Champions League for Ralf Rangnick’s men, with a tricky last sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid billed for next week in Spain.
However Carragher doesn’t believe that could even happen at all, after mocking United’s hopes of winning it by saying that Arsenal stand a better chance.
Carragher’s fellow CBS Sports pundit, Alex Scott, was asked who she thinks will go all the way and win this season’s Champions League.
The former Arsenal defender was told by Gunners legend Thierry Henry, that she couldn’t pick the north London club, but with Scott on the verge of explaining why she thinks that Manchester City can win the competition, Carragher cut in to say: ‘I’ll tell you what though: Arsenal have got more chance (of winning the Champions League) than Manchester United.”
The comment comes days after Carragher also made fun of former United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, who had claimed the Red Devils have a chance of winning the Saint Petersburg final in May.
Schmeichel’s response left Carragher, Henry and ex City defender, Micah Richards in stitches during their coverage of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Richards had asked the Dutchman, ‘Peter, do you honestly believe that Manchester United can win the Champions League? Be honest with me now, no messing around.’
After a long pause, he replied emphatically: ‘Yes. What kind of a question is that?’
The answer was followed with some serious laughter in the studio, with Caragher replying, ‘What kind of an answer is that?!”
