Manchester United are set to open talks with candidates for the vacant managerial position in the coming weeks, after finalising a shortlist of contenders.
The Red Devils are expected to appoint a new permanent manager come the end of the season, having placed Ralf Rangnick in interim charge following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November.
Mauricio Pochettino remains the leading candidate for the role, as United have considered hiring him in the past. However, it remains unclear whether he’d be willing to leave Paris Saint-Germain for now.
For this reason, United have also shortlisted Ajax boss, Erik Ten Hag, with Rangnick said to be pushing for the Dutchman’s recruitment due to his ability to manage younger players well.
Ten Hag is however, in a similar situation as Pochettino, as he’s tied to a long contract with Ajax, and leaving them this summer may not be easy.
Ex Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, and former Real Madrid boss, Julen Lopetegui, are also rumoured to be contenders, although they’re not primary targets.
According to The Athletic, United hope to interview each candidate in the coming weeks now that a shortlist has been put together.
Rangnick is also expected to play a role in the process, even in his capacity as interim manager.
