Manchester slip up again after 22 shots against Watford
Manchester United gave up an opportunity to pull clear of Arsenal in the race for a top four finish this season, after playing a goalless draw against Watford.
The Red Devils went into the game just ahead of the Gunners, who had closed the gap between us to one point, after picking up a victory against Wolves in midweek.
Our best chance of the game arguably arrived in the 61st minute, when Bruno Fernandes brilliantly drove to the byline, and teed up Cristiano Ronaldo at the far post, only for the Portuguese’s shot to canon off Anthony Elanga and go out for a goal kick.
United also had two penalty shouts — one in the first period after Elanga appeared to be fouled by Cathcart in the Watford area, and another in the 55th minute when Ronaldo went down to a challenge from Kamara. But both fouls were deemed not good enough to warrant a penalty, with referee Kevin Friend waving them off.
United’s draw means we remain one point ahead of Arsenal, who still have two games in hand.
United had 22 shots in this game but couldn’t get past Ben Foster.
