Manchester United’s chances of making it to the quarter-final of the Champions League were dashed, as United were beaten 1-0  by Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford.

Diego Simeone set his team as expected, as the away side were resilient in their defending.

Atletico were good on the counter and sounded out a warning when Joax Felix’s goal was ruled out for  offside after the half hour mark.

The visitors continued to look dangerous, though, and got their lead shortly before half-time after Lodi dos Santos headed home following a fine cross from Joax Felix.

Rangnick brought on Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Nemanja Matic in the second half and later brought in Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata, but it wasn’t enough to get an equaliser.

The Champions League represented Manchester United’s last hopes of winning a trophy this season, and all focus will now be geared into finishing in the top four in the Premier League.
