England boss explains why Harry Maguire made the England squad despite his poor form
England boss Gareth Southgate announced his 25-man squad ahead of the international break and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire made the list despite his poor form for Manchester United.
Southgate insists Maguire was handed an England call up because he is one of England’s best centre-back.
Southgate said: “I don’t think it ever crossed our minds not to select Harry Maguire for this squad.
“He’s been a key part of the starting XI that got us to a World Cup semi-final and a Euros final. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s one of our best centre-backs.”
