Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand cut a frustrated figure alongside Paul Scholes in the BT Sport studio, as United were beaten by Atletico Madrid right on their home soil on Tuesday night.

Manchester United have crashed out of the Champions League in the round of 16, and it has been another lacklustre season for United.

Atletico Madrid came to do a job at Old Trafford, and their game plan was perfectly executed.

According to club legend Rio Ferdinand, there was a huge contrast between both sets of players, as the Atletico Madrid side were men who were willing to play for their manager, while Manchester United players didn’t know what to do on the pitch.

“The difference between the two teams today?” Rio Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“The Atletico team had a group of reliable men who would do anything the manager has asked them.

“They understand the job at hand and they worked together as a team.

“Whereas, the other team – Man Utd – are looking at each other saying, ‘who’s going to pull a magic trick out of their hat?’”
