Southgate reveals what he intends to do after dropping Marcus Rashford from England squad

Gareth Southgate plans to sit down with Marcus Rashford after struggling Manchester United star was left out of England squad.

Southgate told talkSPORT: “We always want to see our players enjoying their football and playing well.

“You would have to have a bit of a question mark on both of those things at the moment.

“We’ve got to try to help if we can, but that’s a lot more difficult when you’re not working with the players every day.

“I will spend some time with him when we’re finished this camp. I’ve known him a long time. He was in a couple of Under-21s squads with us.

“In the end, you’ve got to find a way as a player. It’s not always about coaches resolving things,” he added, emphasising the need for the player to push himself at the same time.

“This is a period where he’s got to show the strength of character to come through.

“It would be beneficial for me to sit with him. He hasn’t been in many of our squads. We’ve picked him a lot and he hasn’t been able to meet up.

“That would be time well spent.”
