Manchester United have been handed a significant boost in the club’s hopes of hiring Paul Mitchell with reports in France claiming the sporting director is set to be sacked by Monaco.
A well-respected talent spotter, Mitchell emerged with Southampton before following Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur.
A stint with RB Leipzig followed before Monaco pounced, making Mitchell their sporting director in 2020.
Mitchell has a good relationship with Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick following his time at RB Leipzig and he was Rangnick’s guest at Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup fixture a fortnight ago.
Mitchell is reportedly a Manchester United fan and has made no secret of his affection for the club and his desire to work again in the Premier League.
Monaco may have beaten Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 today, but Mitchell is now being primed for the chopping block in a mass exodus.
L’Equipe claim that president Dimitri Rybolovlev is planning to clear house; Mitchell, manager Philippe Clement and vice-president Oleg Petrov are set to go.
