Why Manchester United chose Erik ten Hag as next manager over Mauricio Pochettino
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is set to be appointed as Manchester United’s next manager ahead of Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino.
According to a report on Metro, Manchester United chose Ten Hag over Pochettino because Manchester United are reluctant to appoint a new manager who would be considered as a ‘failure’ in his last role.
The report also adds that Manchester United are reluctant to pay the £15million compensation fee that would be required to release Pochettino from his Paris Saint-Germain contract.
The Manchester United hierarchy also believe that Ten Hag is a better fit for the current structure in place at the club.
The 52-year-old will have a year left on his deal with Ajax this summer and United would only need to pay around £2m in compensation to bring him and some of the members of his backroom team to Old Trafford.
