Erik ten Hag ready to spend part of £200million transfer budget on exciting Barcelona pass-master
New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
Ten Hag was confirmed as new Manchester United boss on Thursday morning and he is set to be handed a transfer budget of £200million to help his rebuild of Manchester United.
According to Spanish media outlet Sport via Daily Mail, Ten Hag wants to spend part of his transfer budget in signing De Jong from Barcelona.
The 24-year-old midfielder worked with Ten Hag during his time at Ajax before leaving for Barcelona and Ten Hag is keen on reuniting with the midfielder at Manchester United.
The Dutchman’s future at Barcelona remains unknown but he is said to currently be happy.
But Ten Hag’s arrival at United might change the situation if the player eventually decides he wants to leave this summer.
De Jong has been a regular in the Barcelona team this season, making 42 appearances across all competitions – with four goals and five assists.
