Manchester United and Liverpool to battle for Bundesliga star hailed as the new Michael Ballack
According to German media outlet SportBILD, Manchester United and Premier League rivals Liverpool are in a transfer battle for Bundesliga midfielder Christoph Baumgartner.
Baumgartner, 22, has scored six goals in 27 league games this season for Hoffenheim and has been hailed as the new Michael Ballack in the German media.
It’s stated that there is a release clause in Baumgartner’s contract worth around €30million (£25million) – but only to clubs in a specific league.
The report doesn’t name the leagues but you would imagine it would apply to Premier League and top Bundesliga clubs.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a ‘massive fan’ of the playmaker while Manchester United have been interested in the 22 year old since he impressed for Austria at Euro 2020.
Baumgartner is confident in possession, has the energy to get up and down the pitch and can also thread a pass through the eye of a needle.
Baumgartner is reportedly considering whether now is the time to make a move and pursue a new challenge amid interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.
Whilst a different type of player to Aurelien Tchouameni, Baumgartner would be much, much cheaper than the Monaco star.
