Player returns to Manchester United ahead of Erik ten Hag’s arrival this summer
20 year old Manchester United centre-back Teden Mengi has returned to the club, bringing an end to his loan spell with Birmingham City slightly ahead of schedule.
Mengi joined Birmingham City on loan during the January transfer window. He made 10 appearances for Birmingham but a minor injury means he has returned to Manchester United to rehabilitate.
Manchester United confirmed the news on the club’s official website: “Young defender Teden Mengi has been training again with Manchester United’s first team at Carrington.
“The centre-back is currently on loan at Championship side Birmingham City, along with Reds team-mate Tahith Chong, but has been sidelined due to injury.
“The Midlanders end their campaign with a home game against Blackburn Rovers at St Andrews on Saturday.
“Teden is integrating back into first-team training but, unfortunately, will not be ready in time for Blues’ final match.
“The second-city club have kindly given permission for Teden to remain training with United, with our season not ending until 22 May, in order to regain full fitness.
“Former youth-team skipper Mengi made 10 appearances for Lee Bowyer’s side before sustaining a hamstring problem in March.
“The 20-year-old appeared for United’s senior side in the 1-1 draw with Young Boys back in December and will look to be fit and raring to go for the pre-season campaign.”
