Manchester City want Manchester United star. This would be one of the most explosive deals in British transfer history
According to Daily Mail, Premier League rivals Manchester City are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba as a free agent this summer.
Pogba is out of contract at the end of next month when he is virtually certain to leave Manchester United for a second time after rejoining the club for a then world record transfer fee of £89million in 2016.
With Fernandinho set to leave Manchester City this summer when his contract expires, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants to sign a versatile central midfielder this summer and has identified Pogba as an ideal signing.
Under transfer regulations, Manchester City cannot make a formal offer to Pogba until the end of the season. Only foreign clubs can offer Pogba a pre-contract before his Manchester United contract expires.
Pogba currently earns £290,000 a week at Manchester United and Manchester City certainly have the financial muscle to table a sizeable contract to Pogba.
Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have reportedly held talks with Pogba about signing the midfielder as a free agent at the end of the season.
If Manchester City win the race to sign Pogba, the transfer would be one of the most explosive deals in British transfer history.
Carlos Tevez moved from Manchester United to Manchester City in 2009 in a move that at the time caused a major stir. Sol Campbell’s decision to leave Tottenham for Arsenal on a free transfer in 2001 also caused massive controversy.
