Incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on strengthening the club’s defence this summer after the Red Devils conceded 56 Premier League goals this season.

Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are expected to leave Manchester United this summer and signing at least one centre-back is a priority for Ten Hag.

According to reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are discussing a transfer for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Torres is one of the four centre-backs on Manchester United’s transfer shortlist that the Red Devils are monitoring and he has a release clause of around €60million.

The Red Devils are yet to submit a proposal for the Villarreal defender as the club is waiting for Ten Hag’s greenlight to pursue the defender.

Manchester United must act fast if we must sign Torres this summer as Fabrizio also confirmed Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in signing Torres.

Chelsea are set to lose Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as free agents this summer and are desperate to sign centre-backs this summer.

It is believed Torres is open to leaving Villarreal this summer amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
