Manchester United are reportedly interested in a summer move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Red Devils have been handed a boost in the pursuit of the former Ajax midfielder, with Barcelona reportedly ‘willing’ to sell the midfielder for a cut price. Reports claim Barcelona will accept a bid of just over £50million for De Jong this summer
New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with De Jong at Manchester United ahead of next season.
De Jong has already revealed his position to Manchester United ahead of a summer move to Old Trafford.
Should Manchester United secure the signing of De Jong, the Red Devils won’t be signing a player known for his defensive qualities that will replace Nemanja Matic.
It is why the Dutchman, earlier this year, addressed his preferred position. He said he believes that he is at his very best when he can often get on the ball and make things happen.
He told The Guardian : “I don’t necessarily have one position where I really want to play, but I think I’m at my best if I’m in a role where I can often touch the ball.”
Ten Hag, of course, knows how to get the best out of De Jong following their time together at Ajax.
