Bayern Munich director of football Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed Robert Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer amid interest from Manchester United.

The striker’s current deal runs until the end of next season, but he has already decided he wants to leave the club and could be sold before his contract expires.

“I spoke to Lewa. In the conversation he told me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club,” Salihamidzic told Sky Sport Germany ahead of Bayern’s game with Wolfsburg.

“He said that he would like to do something else. But our attitude hasn’t changed.

“Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. That’s a fact. I don’t deal with that because our stance has always been clear.”

Spanish side Barcelona are also reportedly interested in signing Lewandowski this summer.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has revealed he has spoken to Lewandowski to join Manchester United and form a frightening partnership up front with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It would be fantastic to see him at Manchester United,” Kuszczak told Metro UK.

“I’ve had conversations with him about it and when he was back at Borussia Dortmund. He had options during his previous move as his contract was expiring. I know for a fact that he was thinking about leaving Germany and going somewhere else.

“I know he loves Spanish football and has a connection with Real Madrid. We’ve always said that someone who plays for Bayern Munich is one of the best in the world and obviously he’s gone there and won everything there is to win.

“We played in the Polish national team and had different managers over the years and Robert was a fantastic leader. He was the one which held the team together. You hear people say, ‘Bayern Munich is full of great players, it’s easy’, but he’s played well everywhere he’s gone.

“I’d love to see him at Manchester United, but we’ve spoken about that, and it would be fantastic if he could come and link up with Ronaldo. Him and Ronaldo upfront would be something.”
