Barcelona boss Xavi has confirmed his interest in beating Manchester United to the transfer of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has confirmed he wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer after scoring 50 goals for the German champions.

Xavi used 37 year old Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo as an example of why age doesn’t concern him as he plots a move for 33 year old Lewandowski this summer.

Barça manager Xavi on Lewandowski deal: “When it comes to signing, age doesn’t concern me… we signed Dani Alves when he was 38!

“Players take care of themselves, they’re more professional. Alves, Ibrahimović, Modrić, Cristiano or Messi are examples.”

Bayern Munich director of football Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer amid interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.

The striker’s current deal runs until the end of next season, but he has already decided he wants to leave the club and could be sold before his contract expires.

“I spoke to Lewa. In the conversation he told me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club,” Salihamidzic told Sky Sport Germany ahead of Bayern’s game with Wolfsburg.

“He said that he would like to do something else. But our attitude hasn’t changed.

“Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. That’s a fact. I don’t deal with that because our stance has always been clear.”
