Erik ten Hag tells Manchester United to pause contract talks with this Manchester United star
Manchester United have paused contract talks with left-back Luke Shaw until Erik ten Hag gives his seal of approval.
Shaw’s current deal expires in 2023 with United holding the option to extend that by a further year and the Red Devils were initially keen on extending his contract with the club.
While the England international is said to be open to signing a new contract, United are in no rush to agree fresh terms.
According to The Sun, Ten Hag wants to assess Shaw properly before giving the greenlight for Manchester United to extend the contract of the 26 year old left-back. Ten Hag wants to make an informed decision on whether the defender can be a part of his longer term plans.
Shaw has had a stop-start Old Trafford career ever since his £32million signing from Southampton in 2014. The England international has struggled with injuries and form since joining Manchester United but was at his best for the Red Devils last season.
Like most of the United squad however, Shaw has struggled this term.
Manchester United are open to extending Shaw’s contract until 2026 with an £180,000 weekly salary but first want Ten Hag’s approval.
