Manchester United have been informed the Red Devils have lost out to Real Madrid in the race for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to 90min.

Monaco have allowed Tchouameni to make the decision on his next club, with Real Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United all interested in signing the France international midfielder.

Real Madrid made signing Tchouameni a priority this summer after they failed to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, who instead extended his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell recently confirmed that the Ligue 1 outfit are willing to sell Tchouameni but warned they will be very aggressive with his transfer fee.

Asked by RMC Sport which club he would prefer Tchouameni to join this summer, Mitchell said:  “I don’t have a preference to be honest! As always when you sell a player, there needs to be fair compensation. The market is different every year.

“Everyone was able to see what a top player Aurelien is, but everyone also knows that we are an ambitious club with an ambitious shareholder. So no, I have no preference when it comes to selling him. We will have to be very aggressive in terms of the fee we demand to lose such an incredibly gifted player.”
