Villarreal defender Pau Torres prefers a move to Manchester United despite an offer from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
According to reports in Spain via Manchester Evening News, Tottenham Hotspur have matched Manchester United’s €50m (£42.5m) bid for Torres but the Villarreal defender is keen on playing for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United team.
Negotiations with both clubs are ongoing and a trip to England could be on the cards for the player’s agents. Manchester City and Chelsea have also been in touch with Torres’ close contacts, but no offers from either have been received, it seems.
Torres has been in brilliant form for Villarreal this season, picking up where he left off last season. Although the club had a disappointing run in La Liga this time around, they managed to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
After the Red Devils conceded 57 goals in the Premier League last season, Ten Hag is reportedly keen on signing a centre-back this summer as he seeks to strengthen United’s defence.
Torres isn’t the only centre-back attracting interest from Manchester United as Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber is also on Manchester United’s shortlist.
